My Action Plan

Actions
  1. I will cite all the references that I use in my instruction and ensure the students are aware of this.
  2. I will teach the students how to cite references and resources and require the students to do so for all their work.
  3. I will create a Ning social networking site for my classes and instruct the students how to participate and contribute to the site.
What information do I need to meet my goal?
  • References on APA citation.
  • "How to" information on using the various features on Ning.
How can I find the information that I need?
  • Refer to the resources available through Walden about APA citation.
  • Explore the Ning website and other web resources on using Ning features (ie. YouTube, Help section on the Ning website, etc.)
  • Collaborate with a colleague that successfully implemented the use of a Ning site with his physics classes.
Steps Taken So Far:
  • I purchased a yearly subscription to Ning.
  • I have spoken with my colleague. He provided me a list of his lesson plans, rubrics, and links to his Ning site. I am to go over the documents, explore the Ning site, and meet him on Wednesday after our science department meeting to discuss any questions I may have.
  • I have reviewed the documents on APA format and citation provided by Walden University.
  • I have explored sites via a Google search on APA format and citation to see if there are student friendly sites available for my students to refer to.

  1. Sam,

I can tell that you are very excited about your GAME plan and I am excited for you! It seems as if you know exactly what you need to do, to help you achieve your goals. Your actions that you stated are very specific and appropriate for your needs. I have to admit, I have heard about Ning, but have not ever visited the site. I can tell that by your post that it is a social networking site, but I am curious, how is it different from say Facebook, or Myspace? I plan to check out the site in the near future to see what it has to offer. Before I started this program with Walden, I did not have a lot of experience utilizing technology with my students. This program has helped me get the exposure that I need and that my students want me to have, so that I can incorporate technology into my lesson plans. I still have so much to learn! I would appreciate any advice that you have, and would like to wish you luck on your journey to meet your goals.

  2. I am impressed by your GAME plan. It sounds like you have thought about what you are going to do and how to go about doing it. I know with Ning sites, you as the site master have control of what is posted and who you allow in. This is a great tool to encourage class participation. It is effective in both ESL students and students with learning disablities.

  3. Hi Samantha,
Your action plan is a solid and step by step procedure to achieve the GAME plan you set out for your students. I like it very much that you role model what you are going to teach your students. i.e. the referencing. I had experience in teaching students referencing and citation, it was hard. It's not just the content is stiff and boring, but students are required to pay attention for the small details. Something that can't be done right carelessly. I found that really difficult to teach in class. However by role modelling in your materials, students get to see their teachers are doing it, hence they know it's important and that it's necessary to cite and acknowledge others work. I think you can get students to cite other students' work. This shall give them the proud of owning their artifacts. A sense of ownership of their own learning is essential to create engagement.

Good luck with your plan and I am sure it'll be a fruitful journey for you and your students! :)

  4. Samantha,
I would have to say I am jealous of how well your game plan is thought out. Your ideas look amazing and I am sure everything will go as planned. I also have not visited the Ning site but will do so in the near future. I like the fact that you can be in control of the security on the site by being the site manager. That is essential for the safety of our students. Awesome work!
